Privacy policy

Easy Reader reads, manages, and annotates PDFs selected by you. Your PDFs and reading records remain in your browser.
Single purpose
Easy Reader's single purpose is to read, manage, and annotate PDFs explicitly selected by the user in Chrome. The extension never sends PDFs, filenames, URLs, document text, annotations, bookmarks, or reading progress to the Easy Reader developer or analytics services. After explicit consent, it sends minimal anonymous usage data to measure the number of installations that are actually used.
Data handled
- Local PDF files explicitly added by the user, including filename, size, and modification time.
- Online PDF URLs explicitly opened by the user. Access to the relevant HTTPS site is requested only after the user clicks the toolbar button or context menu.
- PDF title, page count, and outline, plus highlights, pen strokes, bookmarks, page number, in-page position, and zoom level created by the user.
- Highlight quote images explicitly generated by the user. Images are created on the device and written to the clipboard or download folder only after the user selects the corresponding action.
- If anonymous analytics is enabled, a random installation ID, extension version, anonymous activity event, and event time. The random ID does not contain a name, email address, Chrome account, or device identifier.
Use, storage, and retention
This data is used only to provide PDF reading, the offline library, annotations,
bookmarks, reading-position restoration, and quote-image features. Local PDFs are
stored in the extension's IndexedDB. The document index, preferences, and reading
records are stored in chrome.storage.local. Data remains until the user
removes a document, clears extension data, uninstalls the extension, or the browser
clears storage.
When an online PDF is opened, the request is sent directly from the user's browser to the selected site. Easy Reader does not use a developer-operated proxy, does not include the site's login cookies, and does not support insecure HTTP URLs.
Optional anonymous analytics
For new installations completed after this data practice is disclosed on the store
listing, anonymous analytics is enabled with installation and no automatic dialog is
shown. Users can disable it anytime from Privacy on the extension home page. Users who
upgrade from a version without analytics remain opted out unless they enable it. When
enabled, the extension sends at most one
activity signal per day to https://pdf.4o4.tech/api/extension-analytics.
The endpoint validates the request and forwards only the random installation ID,
extension version, event name, and event time to Google Analytics 4. Turning analytics
off stops future reporting and deletes the locally stored random ID.
The Easy Reader website also uses Google Analytics 4 to understand visits to its public pages. Google processes analytics data under its own terms and privacy policy. Hosting and analytics providers may process ordinary connection information such as IP address and request time for security and operation. This information is not associated with a PDF, URL opened in the reader, or reading content, and is not used for advertising or profiling.
The website also uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregated, anonymous page-view reporting. Vercel does not use third-party cookies for this service; it may process a hashed visitor signal, page URL, referrer, general device or browser details, and approximate location. Vercel analytics data is not connected to PDF content, reading history, or document URLs.
Data sharing
Easy Reader does not sell user data. It does not use data for advertising, credit evaluation, or purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose, and the developer cannot read user documents. Only after consent, minimal anonymous analytics data is transferred to Google Analytics 4. If the user pastes or sends a generated image to another application, that application's privacy terms apply.
Permission use

storage: saves the document index, annotations, bookmarks, preferences, reading progress, analytics choice, and random installation ID. -
unlimitedStorage: keeps PDFs explicitly added by the user in the offline library without silent loss caused by a small default quota. -
activeTab: identifies the current PDF tab only when the user clicks the extension or runs its shortcut. -
contextMenus: provides the “Open PDF with Easy Reader” link context menu. - Optional site access is requested for the relevant HTTPS site only when the user explicitly opens an online PDF. Local file URL access must be enabled separately by the user in Chrome's extension details.
Easy Reader's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Security
The extension uses Manifest V3, a restrictive content security policy, locally packaged PDF.js code, credential-free HTTPS requests, PDF file and resource bounds, and viewport-limited rendering. The release package does not load or execute remote code.
User controls and contact
Users can remove an individual document and its reading records from the library. They can disable analytics from Privacy on the home page, which also deletes the local random installation ID. They can also clear all data or uninstall the extension from Chrome's extension management page. For privacy or deletion questions, use the developer support email shown on the Easy Reader Chrome Web Store listing.
If this policy changes, the effective date and Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated. Material changes to data handling will be prominently disclosed before processing begins, and any required consent will be obtained.
